Twin Cam Case Bearing Conversion:

This is a must for the 04-up Big Bore Twin Cam motors or repairing the left case half of all 04-up 88” and 96” motors.

In 2004 , Harley Davidson stopped using the Timken case bearing system and replaced it with roller bearing set up. In addition to this Harley Davidson changed their flywheels from steel to iron, the problem is that the roller bearings can not handle the load created on the sprocket and pinion shafts and the flywheels can not stay true.

Utilizing a precision insert, we convert the left side crankcase roller bearing (HD24604-OOD) to the more durable Timken bearmg (HD9028).

This insert is manufactured from aerospace quality steel that is several times stronger than the aluminum case material the standard bearing rides in Flywheels.

In 2004 , Harley Davidson started making their flywheels from steel to iron and changed the torque values. This raised Harley-Davidson’s run out specifications of the pinion shaft to 010” All gear drive camshaft manufactures (S&S , Andrews) require a maximum run out of 002”. We true the flywheels to 002” maximum pinion shaft run out, and weld them in place so they will not cause damage to the cam gears, the oil pump, or the cam support plate.

All lower ends are re-assembled with Timken inner cam bearings, new right side case bearing (HD24604-OOD), and new sprocket shaft thrust washer (HD8972, and seal (HD12068).
